Make Homemade Pizza In A Wood Pellet Pizza Oven

A wood pellet pizza oven is a gas stove with an attached container to hold wood pellets that add flavor to pizza. These pizza ovens have controls that are similar to conventional ovens that produce an adjustable flame at a constant temperature. The attached container holds wood pellets made of different woods to give unique flavors to pizza. Some of the wood pellets that can be used include hardwood, fir, beech, oak, cedar, hickory, maple, mesquite, oak, and pecan. Each of these woods will impart a different flavor to a pizza. Here is a way to use a wood pellet pizza oven to cook a home-made pizza:

Use Parchment Paper:  Cut a piece of parchment paper to the size of the pizza you are making.

Assemble Pizza:  Make pizza dough, allow it to rise, roll it out, and place it on the parchment paper. Add sauce, mushrooms, red onions, and spinach and top with mozzarella cheese.

Preheat Pizza Stone:  Light the pizza oven with a pizza stone in place on the cooking grate. Allow the pizza oven to come to temperature and thoroughly heat the pizza stone. Cooking pizza on a pizza stone will make sure that the pizza crust is crisp on the outside while remaining soft on the inside.

Add Wood Pellets:  Place wood pellets into the pellet container on the side of the pizza oven and ignite them with a butane torch lighter. Stir the pellets occasionally to make sure that they are evenly burning.

Cook Pizza:  With a pizza peel, slide the heated pizza stone to the edge of the oven and place the pizza and parchment paper directly on the stone. Slide the pizza and stone back into the oven. Cooking time will vary according to your recipe.

Rotate Pizza:  While cooking, rotate the pizza several times to let the smoke from the wood pellets flavor the entire pizza. On one of your last rotations, lift the edge of the pizza and remove the parchment paper to let the pizza crust get crisp.

Remove Pizza:  Lift the edge of the pizza with a spatula to check that the crust is done. When the pizza is thoroughly cooked, use a pizza peel to remove it from the oven and place it on a pizza platter. Allow the pizza to rest for 5 minutes. During this time, top the pizza with sliced provolone, cheddar, other cheeses, pepperoni, Italian sausage, and/or other ingredients, and sprinkle with freshly grated Parmesan cheese. The heat from the cooked pizza will melt the added cheeses. Add chopped olives, sliced tomatoes, and other fresh items, as desired.

Serve Pizza:  Slice the pizza into individual portions and serve.
